His interest in Haiti: Nesken Weche was born and raised in Haiti. He came up with the idea to found YHS in early 2014. Together with Michaelle Exhume they formed the organization. He has a deep desire of helping the struggling nation move toward improving its people’s education with a focus to modernize the approach of education and co-curricular activities to bring about programs that can benefit the youth.
What He Does: He is the President of YHS and his role is to work with the Vice President to implement the organization’s vision, mission and overall direction. He currently works in management for a messenger and freight company.
His Background: He has a BS in Business Administration and Management from CUNY York.
Fun Fact: He loves basketball and soccer.
What He Looks Forward to Most: His dream life is to start his own company.

Michaelle Exhume

Michaelle Exhume

Vice President/Co-Founder

Her interest in Haiti: Michaelle Exhume was born and raised in Haiti and moved to the United States at the age of 11. She has had a yearning to help the country from a young age. YHS is a big part of her dream coming into fruition.
What She Does: Her role in the organization as Vice President & Treasurer is to work with the President to implement the organization’s vision, mission and overall direction, as well as manage its finances. She currently works as a Product Analyst for a consumer products test lab. She hopes to be a valuable asset to the organization and to the children that will benefit from it.
Her Background: She has a BS in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering from NYU.
Fun Fact: She loves exploring different cultures. Her favorite things to do are outdoors – gardening, hiking and running.
What She Looks Forward to Most: Given one of the things she loves to do most. Every year she looks forward to the summer

Rebecca Exhume

Her interest in Haiti: Rebecca Exhume is passionate person who wants to see Haiti’s children strive. She was born in Haiti and immigrated to the United States at 13 years old. Ever since then, it has been her dream to help the Haitian children find quality education. her hope is that her education and experience will help to provide the children health education and proper hygiene education. Young Haitian Scholar, inc. gives her the opportunity to reach her goals in helping Haiti reach it’s potential.
What She Does: Her role in the organization as Secretary and Social Media Coordinator is to work with the board to manage and store the company’s records, organize the company’s board meetings and promote the organization via by means of social media. She is currently a full-time student.
Her Background: She has a background in Biology, and plans to earn a masters degree in public health-epidemiology
Fun Fact: She loves to travel , and she is a true foodie at heart.
What She Looks Forward to Most: She looks forward to earning her master’s degree and to visit at least one country on each continent.

Gridiane Pygeol

Program Outreach Director

Interest in Haiti: Gridiane Pygeol is of Haitian decent and wants to help those who are struggling within the country. The Haitian culture plays a vital part in her life since her parents raised her on Haitian traditions. Gridiane loves the food, music, and style that comes from her native land and wants to help the people of the nation. She hopes to help improve Haiti by getting involved in different organizational programs and giving a helping hand to those in need.
Academic Experience: Gridiane Pygeol is a part of the executive board of YHS. She graduated from Adelphi University with a BS in accounting. She then continued her education at Molloy College and graduated with her master’s in Business. Gridiane aspires to use her business acumen as way to help YHS and other non for profit organizations strive and prosper.
Occupational Career: Gridiane Pygeol has experience working within different business fields such as accounting, audit, and tax. She currently works as an auditor at an Accounting firm and aspires to expand her knowledge of the Not-for-Profit sector.
Fun Fact: She loves calligraphy and often writes cards and certificates for organizational events.
Future Aspirations: She hopes to give back to her community and start an after school program for children.

Victoria Esteve

Victoria Esteve provides administrative support to the Young Haitian Scholars team. Victoria is a native New Yorker and has worked in the nonprofit community in Long Island as an Developmental Program assistant for over two years. She received a BA in Communications from Long Island University. Victoria developed a strong sense of devotion for the nonprofit sector when joining YHS. This experience gave her a deep appreciation for how nonprofits seek to improve the quality of life for our region; one program at a time.
